Amalfi Coast travel information Trains & airport connections to Sorrento & Positano

GETTING TO THE AMALFI COAST
The Amalfi Coast is easy to reach because of its proximity to Salerno (train station) and Naples and Rome (airport) and thanks to the highways quickly connecting to the rest of Italy. Unlike the major tourist areas and mostly because of the rocky terrain, you will not find a railway service on the Amalfi Coast, but you can count on public Sita Buses, boats, ferries or you can simply rent a car. Many of the public companies publish the current transportation schedule on their web site. Beware that the published schedules might not always be up-to-date: check to see whether there is a reference date for the schedule!
Airports If you are landing in Rome, you need to take a bus, train or metro from Fiumicino or Ciampino Airports to Termini station in the center of Rome. If you are flying into Naples you have the option of boarding the Curreri bus to Sorrento (the schedule is on www.curreriviaggi.it available in English version too), or to take the shuttle bus to the train station outside the terminal.
Trains Trains are operated by Trenitalia and a few others smaller companies handling local transportation. You can check the schedules here www.trenitalia.com.

Trains Naples - Sorrento
If you are staying to Naples/Sorrento area, you will be also interested in Circumvesuviana trains that connect Naples with Sorrento, Pompeii, Herculaneum and the other places of the area. The map and schedule of the railway network is available on Circumvesuviana web site www.vesuviana.it (unfortunately in Italian only). Buses For a cheap and fairly efficient way of reaching Amalfi Coast, you can just use the public buses, SITA (www.sitabus.it). The terminal is in Amalfi, in the centre of the Amalfi Coast, where from you can take connections to Positano, Sorrento, Ravello and Salerno. You need to make a clear signal that you want to catch the bus, as they do not automatically stop at all the stops. Also check their displayed timetable for the schedule: Festivo means Sunday and public holidays, Feriale means working days Monday to Saturdays, When checking the timetable,

Ferries Naples - Sorrento - Capri
Ferries A good way to start your journey on the Amalfi Coast is to experience the ferry. From the sea you will understand why, according to the legend, this is the Land of Mermaids, and you will experience the emotions of the first inhabitants when they chose where to build their homes. The ferry is much faster than the bus , and definitely an unique way of traveling. However, it is much more expensive than local buses, but is surely worth it. They operate daily in summer season, connecting all the villages - Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento, Salerno, Naples, Capri Island and Ischia Island, or offering transfers from Napoli to Amalfi Coast, Capri and the Cilento Coast. If you are a group of at least 25, you can even rent your very own ferry! Purchase your ticket on board, or at ticket stations at the various ports located in all of the major areas of the Amalfi Coast. You can chose your ferry from Metro del Mare ("Sea Metro") www.metrodelmare.com, the major ferry transport company, or from smaller company such as Alilauro, Caremar, L.M.P., L.N.G..
